Documented quality

## Start with the evidence.

AS9100D & ISO 9001:2015
Certificate **19578** · PRI Registrar

Issued June 8, 2024
Valid through June 7, 2027

[Read the current certificate (PDF, 419 KB) →](https://appalachiantool.com/assets/img/certificate.pdf)

Registration covers the Swannanoa precision machine shop; review its scope against your purchase requirements.

Part size needs its own evidence.

Usable capacity depends on stock, workholding, weight and tool access.

## Precision work, from small components to large turning work

We machine complex components in low-volume high-mix and high-volume low-mix environments.
Materials range from steel and aluminum alloys through titanium and Inconel. Our customers
include government-contracted high-tech programs and commercial production alike.

The brochure lists an **owner-reported Ø70″ fleet turning envelope**, subject to machine and setup confirmation. Separate published limits include **96″ between centers** on the Monarch manual lathe and a **Ø19.7″ × 11.8″** 5-axis workpiece envelope. These are different machines, not one combined capacity.

Why Appalachian Tool

## Capability that shows up in the part, not the brochure

01 · Turning

### Dual-spindle, done-in-one

Twin-spindle turning centers support sequential front- and back-side work. We review the setup, tooling and inspection needs for the actual part.

02 · Swiss

### Live-tool Swiss turning

Bar-fed Citizen Cincom L32 with main and back spindle plus rotary tools —
high-volume small parts with milled features in one pass.

03 · Milling

### Large-table 3-axis milling

Okuma MILLAC 1052V: a listed 86.6″ × 41.3″ milling table. Review workpiece weight, axis travel and fixture clearance with the shop.

04 · 5-Axis

### Okuma Genos M460V-5AX

The shop lists an Okuma Genos M460V-5AX for simultaneous 5-axis machining, with a Ø19.7″ × 11.8″ workpiece envelope. Confirm the fixture and tool clearance for your part.

Who we work with

## Built for aerospace, energy and defense supply chains

Appalachian Tool & Machine supports prime contractors, Tier 1 suppliers and
engineering teams that need machined parts, fixtures and tooling with a clearly agreed manufacturing plan. Most of our work is low volume and high variety: one-off prototypes,
replacement components for aging equipment, and short production runs that bigger
shops will not take on.

Aerospace

### Aerospace components and tooling

Machined parts and tooling for aerospace programs, run under AS9100D
controls with full traceability and inspection records.

Energy

### Power and process equipment

Components for power generation, process piping and heavy industrial
equipment, including large-diameter turning work on vertical lathes.

Defense

### Government-contracted work

Tooling, fixturing and subcontract manufacturing for defense programs,
alongside commercial production on the same shop floor.

Common questions

## What customers ask before they call

### How large a part can you machine?

The shop publishes an owner-reported Ø70″ fleet turning envelope. The named VTL specifications are smaller; [review the machine limits](https://appalachiantool.com/equipment.html#capacity-basis) and ask us to confirm the setup. The Monarch manual lathe has 96″ between centers; that is a length, not a diameter.

### Do you take small or one-off jobs?

Yes. Low-volume, high-variety work is our specialty — prototypes, replacement
parts and short production runs that larger shops often decline.

### What certifications do you hold?

AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015, certificate 19578, valid through 07 June 2027.
Certification has been continuous since 2012 with documented quality controls.

### What materials do you machine?

Steel, aluminum, titanium, Inconel and other aerospace alloys, plus castings
and specialty materials across turning, milling, grinding and boring work.
